Peter Schleck, Director

Peter Schleck joined the PCAOB in February 2004 as Director, Internal Oversight and Performance Assurance (IOPA). Before joining the Board, Mr. Schleck served a total of 15 years in the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Energy. From 1998 to 2004, he was Special Advisor to the inspector general, and then, Director of Program Review and Special Inquiries. In the latter capacity, Mr. Schleck led inter-disciplinary teams of auditors, special agents, inspectors, and attorneys in performing reviews of and inquiries into some of the department's most sensitive operations, such as the stewardship of the nation's nuclear weapons complex.

In this position, Mr. Schleck also was staff liaison for the Audit Committee of the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency (PCIE), which was created by Presidential Executive Order as the umbrella organization of federal inspectors general. He first joined The Energy Department’s IG office in 1986 and worked there until 1995 in progressively more responsible positions.

During the intervening years, Mr. Schleck served as Associate Counsel to the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; as an attorney at Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger, and Hollander, LLC in Baltimore, MD; and as a judicial clerk to the Honorable William W. Wenner, Court of Special Appeals of Maryland.

Mr. Schleck earned a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a Notes Editor for the American Criminal Law Review.
